I recently had the honor of photographing a beautiful Catholic Baptism of Baby L at Holy Cross Catholic Church in St. Petersburg, FL. Surrounded by family and faith, this special day was filled with heartfelt moments, reverence, and celebration. Catholic ceremonies take place in sacred, quiet spaces and for good reason. It is one of the Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church. I often do these in the client’s home, but sometimes there is a location at the church available to get your child ready.

To make the most of this time, I always suggest having the baptismal details ready. These may include:

• The baby’s baptismal outfit or gown
• A rosary or prayer book
• Any personalized keepsakes (like a cross necklace, bonnet, or heirloom blanket)
• A printed invitation or announcement
• Family heirlooms

Formal Portraits after the Baptism

Once the Baptism ceremony is finished, we take time to capture formal family portraits often starting at the altar inside the church. These post-Baptism portraits are some of the most cherished images from the day. It’s a special opportunity to photograph the child surrounded by loving family members, godparents, and even the priest who performed the sacrament.

These portraits are not only meaningful but also mark the spiritual significance of the day. I take care to pose everyone thoughtfully and respectfully, preserving the sacred atmosphere of the church setting.

After the indoor portraits, we often step outside to take advantage of the church’s beautiful architecture.
