A Luxury Proposal in the Sky: St. Pete Surprise Marriage Proposal Soars 400 Feet Above the City

Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to photograph a Luxury Marriage Proposal unlike anything I’ve ever captured before—a St. Petersburg Surprise Marriage Proposal that literally took romance to new heights.

Sam planned an unforgettable moment for Christine with the help of Executive Helicopter Tours based out of Albert Whitted Airport in sunny St. Petersburg, Florida. His plan? Propose mid-flight in a helicopter while soaring in front of his family’s 25th-floor downtown St. Pete condo—where friends and family held a massive “Will You Marry Me?” banner.

Of course, I said yes to the flight!

Now you might be wondering—how was I able to be so close to them without tipping off Christine about the big moment that was about to unfold? Well, the pilot Jacob had a clever cover story. He told the couple I was onboard to photograph Tampa Bay Rowdies Stadium in downtown St. Pete. Luckily, Christine didn’t ask too many questions and was excited for the flight… haha! Christine’s surprise proposal photographer was literally feet away.

As a surprise proposal photographer, I’m usually stationed 40 feet away, hidden in the scenery, waiting for the perfect moment. But not this time. I was just one foot away, camera in hand, documenting every second of this epic Luxury Proposal from inside the helicopter.

As we flew by the condo, the pilot Jacob aligned us perfectly so Christine could clearly see the banner. Her reaction was everything you’d hope for—pure surprise and a tearful, joyful yes. Check out the video!

After the proposal, Sam and Christine enjoyed an unforgettable aerial tour of the area, flying over Madeira Beach, St. Pete Beach, the historic Don CeSar Hotel, Fort De Soto Park, and the iconic Sunshine Skyway Bridge. The entire experience was straight out of a dream and the perfect way to kick off their engagement.

And the magic didn’t stop there. After we landed, their families were waiting at the airport to greet the newly engaged couple. Capturing those fleeting moments—tight hugs, happy tears, and pure joy—was such an honor. I know those photos will be cherished by their family for years to come.
